The Gathering Jacket is inspired by the shooting jackets, barn coats, and workwear of the mid-20th century, but reworked with gentler, more organic lines that are more at home in the garden (and inevitably the coffee shop).
Cut from an 10 oz canvas milled in the US from domestic cotton, lined with our signature chevron-finished poplin, and adorned with Martexin waxed canvas, this jacket is a lightweight piece designed to be stowed away in the heat of the day and pulled out as the temperature dips as sunlight fades.
Our double-pleated short was designed to stand the test of time as elevated summer staple. Meant to hit right above the knee, it is wide enough to breathe in the summer heat, but substantial enough to avoid those pesky trend-cycles.
This piece is cut from our 11 oz Cone Mills denim. Not too light, not too much, just right.
Our double-pleated short was designed to stand the test of time as elevated summer staple. Meant to hit right above the knee, it is wide enough to breathe in the summer heat, but substantial enough to avoid those pesky trend-cycles.
This piece is cut from a deadstock, 100% cotton twill fabric with a soft hand feel and just a hint of shine.
Our double-pleated short was designed to stand the test of time as elevated summer staple. Meant to hit right above the knee, it is wide enough to breathe in the summer heat, but substantial enough to avoid those pesky trend-cycles.
This piece is cut from a deadstock 55% hemp, 45% cotton twill with a thick, soft hand feel reminiscent of a lightweight sweat pant.

Our Climate Beneficial™ Roll-Neck Sweater is the heart and soul of the First Principles project. Made from a 50-50 wool/alpaca fiber mix originating from the Carbon Farm Network in upstate New York, the fibers are aggregated and sent to American Woolen Company in Connecticut for carding and spinning. The resulting undyed yarns then make their way to Brooklyn to be knit, meaning the entire supply chain is contained within 300 miles of NYC!
The depth of color of each sweater results from the unique, undyed fibers of the flocks in the cooperative. Designed with a roll-neck, raglan sleeve, and open knit, this accommodating silhouette is surprisingly breathable in the open air, then is designed to trap heat when worn beneath a shell layer, making it the perfect transitional piece. Don’t be surprised if you start to live in this piece…
SIZING: Sizing is unisex, with the small fitting a small woman, and the large fitting a large man.

A shirt 30 years in the making: The artwork on this t-shirt was originally featured on the back of a shirt that Chris’s grandfather purchased on a trip to the Grand Canyon in the 90’s. After loving it for 25 years, Chris inherited the shirt and brought it on every adventure he took until it became too threadbare to wear any longer. After a deep dive on the internet, he was able to track down the artist and license the original artwork for a reprint, and the Grand Canyon Shirt was born.
This tee is constructed from 100% Climate Beneficial™ cotton fabric, sewn with cotton thread, and farmed, sewn, and printed in California. The fabric is an ultra-heavyweight jersey designed to get better with age and adventure.
What is it that so many of us find alluring about a barrel pant? For us, it’s the willingness to play with shape and silhouette and allow the eye to flow from top to bottom.
Our barrel pant stays true to that sense of visual flow by removing the traditional dart at the knee and replacing it with a third panel along the side of the leg, smoothing out the curve and leaving an elegant seam running across the front of the pant.
To maximize styling flexibility, we added waist adjusters to the back of the pant that can remove over 2” from the waist, as well as cuff snaps to cinch the leg opening. Our signature waxed-canvas belt loop pairs perfectly with a delightful 11-oz denim for a supple yet substantial pant you’ll want to wear every day.

The statement piece of our inaugural collection, The Overjacket is our pride and joy.
Combining an 11 oz denim with a spectacular chunky basketweave fabric milled in South Carolina from domestic cotton, this jacket features a poplin lining, deep hidden front pockets, an internal denim pocket, and wrist cinches to play around with oversized styling looks. To be honest, we have yet to find a person who doesn't look incredible in this piece, and we hope you're just as proud of it as we are.
Model is 6’4” wearing a size L
This jacket is emblematic of our design process: it started with a silhouette, then was built within the constraints of our sourcing requirements.
For this piece, we sourced the only domestically-manufactured, two-way zipper that utilizes a cotton tape instead of polyester tape, and built the rest of the jacket to complement the beauty of this simple little trim. Martexin waxed canvas welt pockets reflect the brass and cotton tape, and two delightful wool fabrics from American Woolen Company result in a standout look in a timeless shape. Lastly, our 5 oz South Carolina poplin appears again in the lining for a smooth finish.

Cut from a 5 oz poplin milled in South Carolina from domestic cotton, this shirt features a beautiful chevron finish that looks like handmade paper and gives a lived-in feel from day one. The breast pocket includes a pen sleeve with a Martexin waxed canvas ink protector, echoed by the waxed canvas hang loop in the center back. Lastly, we ran mother-of-pearl buttons down the front of the shirt, accented by mussel-shell buttons in the cuff and a singular mussel-shell button closest to the heart as a reminder of days spent writing and sketching on the coast.
Like an unfinished novel, the Stationery Shirt only tells half of a story. The rest of this shirt’s story is up to you.

These pants are part dream, part memory. Inspired by a pair of pants witnessed once in Oakland, California and then never seen again, the flow pant is designed to lay close to the body when relaxed, and reveal their full volume only when moving.
Constructed from a delightful 100% woolen suiting fabric from American Woolen Company, these pants are incredibly light and breathable.
While all of our pants come standard with a 34” inseam, this pant in particular provides the widest range of styling options based on inseam length. Leave it at full length for a stacked look, hem it to your heel for a timeless, flowing look, or (our personal favorite) give it a healthy crop and let the fabric shine!
Please reach out to us to talk styling options and arrange for your complimentary hemming!
